I wanted to test out my new battery system, so went on one last trip before going full time on the road. I head off to a spot in Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest for views of the mountains and next to a rushing river. Of course, my luck it was grey and rainy the whole time, so my solar panels were completely useless! But this was actually a good thing, to be able to see how well things work on battery alone, and they worked out great!
I was only going to head out for a few days, but loved it so much, I ended up staying for a full week. The scenery looked like something out of a movie…super mysterious, grey and rainy. It was absolutely amazing listening to the sound of the river so close by. Every so often another car would pull up to take pics or head out on a hike for a couple hours, but for the most part, Lincoln and I had the place to ourselves.
At one point, I saw another Roadtrek pull up, and was pretty excited to see one out in the wild! They pulled off, but then returned again..so I popped out with Lincoln to say hi. They were a super sweet couple who have been on the road for about 5 years. They told me about their travels and shared some great tips with me. When they found out I lost my traction boards my first trip out, they gave me a brand new set! It really was great to meet to meet others on the road, and they let me know they were in a Roadtrek group on FB to be able to connect up again.
Other than that, it was just super easy going. During the day, Lincoln and I went exploring, and for the eves, I downloaded YouTube vids to watch offline, touched bases with fam to keep them updated on how I’m doing, and played a solo board game my son Ski got for me. I didn’t want to leave! Had plenty of food and propane, but was running low on fuel because I had to run the gen since my solar was useless to keep my batteries up. I’m developing a few personal rules…no driving past 5p, that way I’m settled in before dark, and to not get below half tank of gas.
It was also supposed to snow, and I wanted to get out of the mountains before that started up. Woke up to it hailing! But then as the morning went on, the sun peeked out for the first time all week, and it was gorgeous! But only for about half an hour, and then it got grey and rainy again…so I packed up and head on back to the house. Very soon, I will be home always, only my backyard will change. I can hardly wait!! 😁
