A couple weeks ago, I spent the weekend in Suncadia with a gathering of new people who were awesome. We took a walk where I got an amazing shot of mountains…not sure which range this is, but it’s gorgeous. Next night we went out to Rosyln, where I stumbled on Rosyln Cafe. I only know of it from seeing it on Roadside America…apparently it came up often enough in that show Northern Exposure to be a landmark… I’ve never seen the show. But its a thing, so I took a pic of the thing.
Next up, the camping adventure begins! I head to a BLM site in Liberty, WA. It was really very nice, with proper camping spots, firepits, a bathroom, all that fun stuff, and free to stay for up to 14 days. There are two camping areas… one smaller one where people mostly tent camp, and a second one with larger spaces where most RVs camp. I head on over to the larger area, but it kept getting snowier, then my tires started spinning. I started getting flashbacks to Olympic NF, and got TF out of there. After a very tight 593-point turn I was able to head back to the first camping area. Whew! Crisis avoided!
After pulling in, I decided to stop in the first campsite and got stuck in mud. Like…stuck stuck. STUCK! But hey no big deal, its just mud and I have traction boards. This is when I found out I must’ve forgotten them at Olympic NF. Well, eff me then. There were quite a few people parked up near the entrance with ATVs so I asked one of them if they had traction boards and he was like…hang on, I got you. He drives on over to my van, and he had a winch installed in his truck!!!! I feel like I need that cause I’m noticing a pattern here. He and his friend were super awesome about pulling me out in no time at all. I went ahead and parked up near the other drivers where there’s dry gravel cause I don’t need a campsite that badly.
Come the next morning, everyone was gone and I had the whole place to myself, so I went for a walk and explored the river and other campsites. I also found a really creepy door that looked like something out of a video game. It really was a gorgeous area though. My plan was to head out Wed morning, but woke up to it snowing..hard! And icy road warnings! I anyway really missed Lincoln, but seeing all the snow and how much he would have LOVED it..I REALLY missed my pup!
It felt nice to be totally self sufficient though.. I had internet, power, hot water, was able to cook and stay warm with heating. I was totally fine out there…I just really missed my pup. 🥺 I was finally able to head out Fri morning. Did my post trip errands…emptied tanks, refilled water tank, refueled, refilled propane and car wash… Along the way, I happened to stumble on another Roadside America spot, the Triple X Root Beer Drive In in Issaquah, WA. This was a restaurant chain that started in 1930, this location opened up in the ’60s..and is now only one of 2 left, with this the one last standing with the original barrel design.
My personal goal moving forward is no more than one questionable decision per trip..I really cut it close this time.
This is me we’re talking about though, so don’t hold your breath I’ll reach that goal. No great adventure starts with “So I decided to play it safe and not take any risks…” I will at least not try to take all the risks at the same time. 😊
