Shower Extension Mod

From the photos, the bathroom in the Zion looks quite spacious, especially compared to other Class B vans where your options are using the bathroom with your feet in the hall, or straight up use the toilet in the kitchen next to the bed. The reality? The first time I got into my bathroom to use it, I was incredibly impressed with my level of flexibility to pull my pants up in a 24″x24″ space. 👀

It started making a lot of sense to me why so many other Zion owners were coming up with ways to expand this space. A really common mod is installing Extend-A-Shower, a bar that folds outwards to extend the size of the shower, and folds back inwards for storage within the closed bathroom doors. When I went to install it, I realized it required cutting the bar, plus additional mods since the space is smaller than what the bar was made for. It was all so…involved and I didn’t have or want to buy the tools for all that.

I saw someone used a tension bar which I liked, but I needed it to be even easier since I’d need to readjust it every time I used it.I wanted it to be near instant. My solution: I broke the coil in a tension bar so that it moved with no resistance, and added magnets to the ends. On the door and within the shower, I placed a set of transparent bar braces, and placed a metal circle in it to support the bar, and hold it in place magnetically. Now it takes seconds to move the bar from storage to shower position. Also, if someone happens to bump into the doors trying to slip by, (like my pup will undoubtedly do), the bar isn’t going to topple out of place or stress the doors under pressure. Since the bar moves freely, it just self-adjusts.

This mod gives an extra 10″ of room, the ceiling vent fan is now within the shower space, and there’s additional lighting. YaY! I then added a heavy-weight fabric shower curtain plus liner with magnets. I installed magnets on each side of the bathroom floor for it to attach to and keep the bottom of the curtain within the shower basin. It looks great, it works great, and now I’m done. I have no interest in installing another shower curtain rod for the rest of my life. *pout*
