HBD to me!

Boondocking (aka Dry Camping, Dispersed Camping): The activity of camping (sleeping outside in a tent or special vehicle) on land that does not have any services (no connections to water, electricity, or sewer), and is not part of an official campground…for free!

In my research, boondocking really appealed to me as the way I would prefer to travel. There are different ways to go about it, from a night at a rest stop, to dispersed camping on federal land, to moochdocking in a friends driveway for as long as they’ll have you. This night, I camped through a membership service called Boondockers Welcome, where other members who also have RVs offer stays on their property for up to 3 days.

My very first experience was even more amazing than I could have imagined! Ski and I stayed at a walnut farm in Corning, CA, hosted by an incredibly sweet and welcoming couple! It was HUGE, so much space, and so beautiful! Very weak cell service, so we shelved looking up how to get hot water, poured ourselves premade margaritas, and played a few board games til we were exhausted ready to knock out by 9p. The long days driving on the road really wiped us out. My host texted and we had a funny convo with her apologizing for how loud the frogs are 😂 We loved it!!

Before this trip, I looked up anything interesting to check out on my birthday, and saw a few things here and there, but nothing I would go out of my way to. On the way to the farm, we drove right by one of the things I had found…The Giant Green Olive!!! Was so excited, as he head out in the morning we stopped to take pics. Giant Green Olive is huge!! My pic is now on Roadside America, my source for all the cool, weird Americana road trip attractions out there.
