After so many years of talking about it, and dreaming about it…I did it! For the most part, I was looking at Class C’s for the amount of space and storage in them. That all changed when my friends Tony and Christy (Afrobeta!) came to visit last Summer in their van conversion. They gave me a tour, and I loved it so much my heart was now set on a van.
After a few twists and turns with private sale deals falling through, I found my 2016 Roadtrek Zion… I was not sleeping on this one, called the dealership, did a video walkthrough, and put down a deposit to make sure it would be mine. This time, the whole process was like butter, the dealer, Beach Cities RV in Midway City, CA was beyond awesome. Ski had gotten our birthday weekend off work anyway, so it was perfect! Within 2 weeks of first seeing the van for sale, we were off to pick it up for the maiden voyage home!
First stop was to Walmart to pick up food and a few supplies, then In-N-Out for our first meal in the van. And yes, it HAD to be In-N-Out..Animal Style!! And then…we hit the road for the panic inducing drive through LA to get to Coalinga, CA for our first night in the van at an RV park. It was nicer than I expected an RV park to be! We didn’t explore much though since we were busy pouring through the manual trying to figure out how to turn the hot water, and heater on. It was a super long exhausting day, so we made soup for dinner and knocked out.
Then…I woke up at 3am FREEZING!! The heater became a sudden priority to figure out….couldn’t figure out why the AC would come on when I tried to turn the furnace on….after shivering through a few google searches, found it…the fan was set to on, I needed to change it to auto…and then finally… sweet warmth! Sweet dreams!
